Revelation 22 : 1-21 (Daily Bread of 2/09/2017)

Key verse 22 : 20

Let's give thanks to God who granted us the opportunity to study Revelation. Through this Bible study we were able to obtain the faith in biblical escathology, that is the faith needed to survive the end times. Nowadays we can already notice the sings of the end times. Let's be constantly alert and vigilant constantly in order to accept Jésus whose coming is near.

1. The tree of life (1-5). Jean had a vision of the river that was coming out of God's throne. Similar to the water that Ezechiel saw coming out of the house in Ch. 47, this river's water was coming from God's throne. It is clear like crystal. God pour this clear water onto us like a of His abundant grâce. God's grace flows from the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. The tree of life is located on the river’s edge. When Adam sinned, he and his wife were chased from the garden, but in His great love, God did not destroy the tree of life. Instead He gave the cherub the responsibility to protect it awaiting the day when mankind would repent of their sins and come back to Him. That tree is very abundant in fruits and in an immanente manger it gives life. Therefore it heals the nations. Thanks to this tree there will be no more sickness. Moreover everyone will praise God's name. God has been  tolerating man's iniquity until now and this made the pious surfer. However, the creation's original order will be restablished. God's name will be marked on the foreheads of His people and His light will shine eternally and without ending on the town and its inhabitants. 

2. The Book of life (6-21). God showed John what was going to happen. John has the responsibility to pass on this message (10). The end is coming soon. The faithful to continuously examine themselves in order to be ready for the Bridegroom’s arrival, the Lamb of God. They need to protect themselves from all wickedness by fearing He who judges mankind according to his works. For as the end approaches at great paste, injustice will become more and more a common affair. The faithful ones thus have to daily purify themselves more and more by keeping God's Word that Jesus and the prophets gave them. They cannot add nor subtract anything from it. If not, they will be removed from the Tree of life (18,19). There is a direct link between one's attitude towards the Book of life and the heavenly benefits that the tree of life gives. The faithful must not attach themselves to the perishable things in the World but rather they need to put their hope in God's kingdom. Therefore the angel and Jesus tell the faithful to pray that the end comes soon (7,17). Jesus wants to come soon as He knows how much we are suffering. We need to say : Amen ! (20) John, in exile, was consoled by this vision and he blessed the faithful with a lot of grace (21).
