WHAT IS MAN ?
First the author speaks about the primacy of Christ's message, then he speaks about human existence.
1. Salvation announced in the beginning by Christ (1-4)
Angels are helping spirits in favour of the elected (1:14). Furthermore, they also are used as God's messengers in favour of these who must inherit salvation. So their message mainly concerns mankind's salvation. The content of this message is the result of mankind's disobedience of God. These who disobeyed will receive their right payment. When the time came, the origin of all the messengers, Jesus, God's Son, came to announce the good new for the righteous men and also the judgment of the wicked. Then his messages were confirmed by his servants. The primacy of Jesus' message being confirmed, we must devote a great deal of attention to not disobey his word.
2. What is man ? (3-4)
First, man is mediocre because he is made with clay. But thereafter he is extremely exalted because God raises him so that all things on earth submit below his feet. Throughout the creation, God had already given man all things so that he dominated the world. Now the devil had snatched from him this gift, but God's will is that man recovers his initial position. That's why he sent his only Son. The psalmist sings that even before he comes, God ennobles man up to a position a bit lower than the angels, but when Jesus will come God will completely restore his initial position of God's steward, and this work will finish when Jesus will come at the end.
Prayer: Lord, you are the supreme messenger for my salvation. Thank you for although I am miserable you take care of me. Make use of me to take care of your world according to your will.
Bottom line: Jesus - Mankind - Angels
