ABIDE IN MY LOVE

John 15:9-17

Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. When we abide in Jesus, we bear much fruit. Today, Jesus speaks about how to abide in his love, because the main virtue of Jesus is love.

1. Abide in my love (9-13)

God's love is really immeasurable. We didn't love God but God so loved us that he gave his only Son. Then the Son loved us. Now we must only abide in his love, that is to say, to wholly receive it by faith and confidence. How concretely can we do that ? It's simple, it's keeping and obeying his commandments. That way if we abide in his love, we are loved by God (John 14:21). The commandment of Jesus is summed up by: love one another and greater love has no one thant that someone lays down his life for his friends, what Jesus has shown us. If we follow his example the joy of Jesus overcomes us soon and our joy will be full.

2. You are my friends (14-17)

Jesus calls us friends, not servants. What is the difference ? The servants didn't know the master's will whereas the friends know it. Jesus makes them know all.  We think often that we have chosen God. But it's not true. God has chosen and established us to go and bear fruit. When Jesus establishes us he knows our weakness, but he wholly wants us to pray what God the Master wants, in the name of Jesus and that God listens to our request. His greatest will is that we love one another.

Prayer: Lord, make me keep your commandments and abide in your love. Thank you for making me your friend. Make me discern your will and pray according to it.
